Saturday, November 3, 2007 @ 9:30 – 11:30 AM, Gathering @ 9:15 AM -Maura Hall (Freewill Offering)
The ancients thought that animals were messengers of the gods. They believed that animal guides, or the “spirit” of an animal had the capacity to lead them into a richer humanity. Today, we honor animals for their own life but we also respect their ability to bring vitality to the human person. They can relieve our loneliness and bring comfort when we are hurt. They help to sooth our stress and/or release our energy. They can awaken us emotionally, inspire our spontaneity, and they sometimes give us a language to identify our own emotions or behaviors. (He has the heart of a lion. She eats like a bird.) This presentation will consider the various ways animals reunite us with our instinctual life and help the human psyche get in touch with its own animal spirit or animal wisdom.

Shining through the Living Light: The Spiritual Journey of Blessed Hildegard of Bingen with Gabriele Ühlein

Saturday, May 3, 2008 @ 10:00 AM – Noon -Maura Hall
Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) was a remarkable woman, a “first” in many fields. At a time when few women wrote, Blessed Hildegard produced major works of theology and visionary writings. When few women were accorded respect, she was consulted by and advised bishops, popes, and kings. She used the curative powers of natural objects for healing, and wrote treatises about natural history and medicinal uses of plants, animals, trees and stones. She is the first composer whose biography is known. She founded a vibrant convent, where her musical plays were performed. Her story is an inspirational account of an irrepressible spirit and vibrant intellect that overcame social, physical, cultural, gender barriers to achieve timeless transcendence. Using her own “illuminations,” this morning will be a visual feast that will offer the “Living Light” of Blessed Hildegard’s timeless wisdom for all spiritual seekers.

Lonergan invites us to be attentive, to be intelligent and to be reasonable as we come to know the world around us and come to know ourselves as knowers, as responsible beings and as beloved. Mirroring God: A Franciscan Approach To Quantum Imagination with Gabriele Ühlein

3 Wednesdays: June 11, 18, 25, 2008 @ 7:00 – 9:00 PM -Maura Hall
The medieval Scholastics intuited that what we experience of the
world “mirrors” God. Theologians today speak of God and of God’s expression through creation, including human beings, as always in “process” and always more revelatory. During these three sessions, participants will explore a contemporary Franciscan perspective that is compatible and in dialogue with the empirical sciences which are continually changing our view of the world in which we live. If you have ever wanted to deepen your appreciation of St. Bonaventure (June 11), Duns Scotus (June 18), and Teilhard de Chardin (June 25) these three sessions are for you. It will be an opportunity to integrate the growing edge of our contemporary quantum understanding of “how things are” with the beauty and wisdom present in the long lineage of Franciscans who love God’s good creation. Come to one session or come to all!
A donation of $5 per session to cover materials is suggested.

All My Relations: Exploring A Spirituality For A Global Time with Gabriele Ühlein

2 Mondays: July 14, 21, 2008 @ 7:00 – 9:00 PM -Maura Hall
The world of St. Francis and St. Clare was in many ways no different from ours. The competitive and newly “globalized” medieval marketplace, the Crusades and the Islamic “other,” as well as the turbulent economic disparities of Assisi can all be easily paralleled by our chaotic times. Yet in the midst of such familiar challenges, these two Franciscan saints discovered God’s remarkable Love, and discerned what to do. They experienced God’s good blessing in their own life, in their sisters and brothers, and in all of Assisi. We too, can know such joyfulness and grace. During these two sessions, we will use images from the life of St. Francis (July 14) and St. Clare (July 21) to confirm a spirituality meant for our own time. Each session is a complete unit and will culminate in a renewed sense of hope that is the hallmark of the Franciscan spirit. Come to one or both. It will be an opportunity to cultivate anew, a personal response to a global sense of “belonging” and “God-with-us.”
Come to one session or come to both!
A donation of $5 per session to cover materials is suggested.

Spiritual Direction In An Energetic Worldwith Pat Irr

Saturday & Sunday: June 28, 29, 2008 @ 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM -Our Lady of the Angels Motherhouse: The Auditorium
This workshop is for spiritual directors and/or counselors who have some experience and are interested in deepening their understanding and awareness of the dynamics of energy that are present in each direction/counseling session. From a contemplative point of view, we know that each encounter with another is sacred time. This does not mean it is always comfortable or even energizing. We are in the flow of Spirit energy and/or shadow energy each time we listen to a directee or client. How do we remain present to this energy and assist the individual to stay with its transformational power? We will consider: C.G. Jung’s understanding of shadow; the thinking of Ken Wilbur and Robert Kegan; our attunement to the dynamics of energy fields and the contemplative experience of accompaniment.
This is a reflective workshop for those who offer forms of accompaniment and are interested in exploring and becoming attuned to the energy within sessions.
Each person will be invited to work with a partner and practice their skill.
Cost: $75.00
